Tips on how to floss like a boss!

Flossing, we’ve all heard of it, some of us love it, some of us hate it…some of us even dance to it!

Start out with a piece that is about 18 inches long. For the best access to the nooks and crannies, proceed to wind most of it around your middle finger. Then, hold a small section of the floss tightly between the thumb and forefingers. As you floss from tooth to tooth – unwind the new floss so you get a clean section for each tooth as you move throughout your mouth. If this method feels difficult in any way, remember there are all types of flosser options out there for you!

No matter which type of floss you decide to use- keep the following pointers in mind!

  • Floss at least once per day, either before or after brushing.
  • If flossing hurts at first, or if your gums are bleeding, don’t give up! Keep up a regular routine of daily brushing and flossing, and the pain should stop within a week or two as your gums get healthier.
  • Children need to floss too! Help your children with flossing until they can do it well by themselves. It may take until age 10 or 11 until they have the manual dexterity to floss well.
